You may have heard of the 4 or the 5 R approach to healing your gut, but there are many problems with the advice thrown around.

Problem #1 Overly restricting the diet or making vague diet recommendations

Most people need to remove certain foods and replace them with other better-for-digestion foods, but there are details that depend on your specific symptoms, lifestyle, stress level, nutritional status or other factors. Not everyone needs a super strict elimination diet. Eating more vegetables and fruit isn’t always the solution. And eating a carnivore diet also isn’t. And many people with digestive issues are not taught how to re-introduce foods again so they can go back to eating normally with family and friends.

Problem #2 “Removing” pathogens and microbes too early in the process, without preparing the gut properly

You have to get your gut ready to eliminate pathogenic and inflammatory microbes. Yes, these bad bugs are the root cause of the problem, but starting with herbal antimicrobials or antibiotics without reducing inflammation and supporting digestion, motlity, gut lining and the microbiome will only backfire. You can end up with more inflammation, more pain and discomfort, more constipation or diarrhea, more body aches, brain fog, or other symptoms.

Problem #3 Recommending probiotics that don’t work (or only counting on fermented foods)

Fermented foods worsen histamine intolerance and acid reflux. They can worsen stomach pain, skin problems, headaches, and others. Some–but not all–probiotics tend to be safer, but there are 100s on the market. Some types are better for certain symptoms and conditions. And some product even contain ingredients that trigger gas and bloating.

This adjustment can be challenging for some individuals who need more calories and protein, so we’ll have to be creative. High-quality proteins like wild-caught fish, grass-fed beef, organic chicken, and organic or pasture-raised eggs are nutrient-dense and support gut healing without triggering digestive upset, which is why I typically recommend them. However, I fully respect your dietary choices, and you can absolutely continue following a vegetarian or vegan diet while improving your digestive health.
Yes, absolutely. You can make meaningful diet changes and adopt lifestyle habits that support digestive healing while continuing to use medications to manage your symptoms. This includes acid reflux medications such as omeprazole, Nexium, Pepcid, or others. There’s no judgment from me as you health-related decisions are entirely your choice. For some, certain medications are essential to ease symptom intensity while laying the groundwork for deeper healing. I’ll also address potential supplement interactions with medications (if any) when discussing supplement protocols, so you can proceed safely and confidently.
Not at all! Your doctor (whether a gastroenterologist or primary care physician) is likely not providing the detailed diet, supplement, and lifestyle protocols covered in this program. Most dietitians and nutritionists also typically don’t have extensive training in digestive disorders, so they may not offer the insights and strategies included here. If you’re working with a functional medicine provider or a naturopathic doctor and seeing good results, you probably don’t need this program. However, if you’re not getting the results you’re looking for and want additional solutions or a second opinion, my program—whether the Core or VIP option—can definitely help provide that.
No, the program does not include testing. However, if you choose the VIP option and have previous tests, such as blood work, endoscopy, colonoscopy, stool testing, or other relevant results, I can review them as part of your assessment during your private 1-on-1 session.
