Did you know that the regular toilet you and I use can make you backed-up and constipated? Your body is naturally designed so that the rectum is completely open and the muscles are relaxed when you’re squatting. This helps poop flow naturally out. Watch the video to see an image that to help you understand what I’m talking about. At a 90-degree angle seated position (like when we sit on a toilet), the path is only partially open, and you may need to strain to push waste out. Aside from constipation, it can cause hemorrhoids and diverticulitis. No fun.

Years and years ago before the modern-day toilet was invented, people squatted when they needed to eliminate waste. They used a hole-in-the-ground toilet, and these are still used in some parts of the world.

The modern-day solution is to use something that will elevate your feet up and allow poop to naturally flow. The first company who came up with this invention is the Squatty Potty. You can find alternatives in other stores or use shoe boxes or something else to do the job.
No matter what you choose, elevate your feet. Your position makes a difference. If you ever had to sway back and forth while sitting on a toilet because things are stuck, it’s your body’s instinct to relax that part of your rectum and open the passage.
