Acid Reflux: A Complete Diet Plan for GERD and LPR

Acid reflux affects more than 60 million Americans, and 50 million others have the silent form of the disease and they don’t even know it. I talked about acid reflux many times as there are many misconceptions about managing this condition with diet, lifestyle, and medications. That’s why I set my heart since the beginning of the year to share this in my new book.

The Complete Acid Reflux Diet Plan: Easy Meal Plans and Recipes to Heal GERd and LPR.

When I started focusing my practice on digestive disorders, I was baffled by the number of people who were seeking a diet and lifestyle solution to eliminate heartburn and acid reflux pain and discomfort. I was even disheartened by the number of people who were told that it was normal to have it or who were only told to take Tums and avoid coffee and tomatoes. Nexium, a medication that blocks acid production in the stomach, is the second most-prescribed medication, with 13 million prescriptions dispensed in 2014 in the US. Unfortunately, it’s widely and casually used despite its long-term side effects.

Most people don’t realize that acid reflux is just the tip of the iceberg! It’s just a sign that your gut and digestion have gone haywire.

Here are some 3 important things to remember about that I talk in more detail about in the book:

  1. Acid reflux is not something to be ignored. Even if you tolerate the pain, stomach acid and pepsin (an enzyme produced in the stomach that I discuss more about in the book), can leave long-term serious harm. If untreated, damaged cells of the esophagus can become cancerous. If you have chest pain, trouble swallowing, choking sensation, or hoarse voice, know that these are silent signs of acid reflux. It’s not just heartburn!
  2. Medications are not the only answer to treating acid reflux. While acid reflux medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, may offer a temporary relief, they come with a price. The side effects include nutrient deficiencies, increased risk of bone fractures, and gut infections and dysbiosis. Many people can manage their symptoms and heal the root of acid reflux (I’ll be talking about those in the next few weeks) without the need for meds.
  3. If you uncover and solve the root causes of your acid reflux, it’s possible to live a life without medication dependence and without the pain. Contrary to popular belief, acid reflux may be due to lack of stomach acid! Other root causes include Inflammation, fermentation, bacterial infection, slow digestion, and weakened muscles. Fix the origin of the problem, and you have a chance of eating your favorite foods pain-free.

Nour’s guidance and expertise was the key to dramatically halting our son’s [Crohn’s] disease progression! His pediatric gastroenterologist is now in agreement of our choice to treat solely with diet and supplements. All his labs have improved and his inflammatory markers are so low they are practically nonexistent.

Before working with Nour, I experienced intestinal pain off and on for for 54 years with minimal success on medications. I have benefited 100% from Nour’s program as I am now pain free!

A lot of time and money was wasted on foods that I thought would help my digestive struggles [diarrhea, bloating, hunger], but in fact I was making it worse. The main benefit is getting a handle on what negatively affects my digestive symptom. Doing a total 180 to my eating habits has been pretty amazing.
